What it is
Once a year we open the lower field to people who live and work in vans, trucks, and converted buses. It is not a festival and there is no stage. It is a long weekend with a shared cook fire, a tools table, and a series of working sessions: electrical systems, water and waste, insulation for a wet climate, and where to legally park in Snohomish County.
The overlap with this project is not incidental. Many of the people who build out a van are the same people who build a fence, weld a bracket, or fix a pump. The skill set is the same one the land needs.
The terms
We ask for a small contribution toward the porta-loos and the insurance, and we ask that nothing is left behind. No generators after dark, no dogs off lead while the goats are in the field, and no fires outside the designated ring. The field is pasture for the rest of the year and has to go back to being pasture on Monday.
Why we do it
Because a parcel that only ever hosts its owners is a hobby, not a project. The gathering is the cheapest way we know to put forty people with useful skills on the ground for a weekend and see what comes of it. Every year something gets fixed that had been on the list for a year.
